Tiger demo - Arc de T - Champs Élysee - Place de Concorde - Les
Invalides - sidewalk cafe supper (first of many)

W top of Eiffel Tower - climbing to roof of Notre Dame - meeting
Marlene from Kaukauna in line - Musée d'Orsay's amazing impressionist
collection - Monmartre & Sacre Couer - Moulin Rouge and a bad
neighborhood -Relais Gascon

R Louvre - Tuileries - dinner cruise

F Versailles & snoozing in Garden - Linda Miller - Champs Élysee -
Lido :-p

S chocolate - no Johnny Depp restaurant :-( - Luxembourg gardens
- St. Germain de Pres - Latin Quarter & left bank - Musée Picasso - p
astis - adieu à Tour Eiffel

S hotel breakfast - TGV to Avignon comfy fast ride on a wet gray day -
sur le pont d'Avignon l'on y danse tout en rond - 2 Americans
drinking Danish beer in an Irish pizza joint in France -cheap supper
Provençal - serious downpour

M strolling Avignon - Rue de les Teinturieres - delicious crepes
(saumon fumé & brie) - shopping, street art - slow trains to
Marseilles & Saint-Raphael - arrived late in the rain but hotel nearby
- rainbow & beautiful sunset - strolled & bought ice cream, then a
glass of wine in hotel bar & listening to waves from our window

T beautiful day - wandering old Saint-Raphael in the morning - flea
market in the square marvelous SNCF agent resolved all bookings -
snooty wine salesgirl - tapas & sunbathing on the beach on the beach -
a beautiful afternoon of sun, sea & sand - the pastis hard sell -
drinks at the hotel & a lost dog - noone eats supper here - kebabs at
last - late night wine & travel plans

W Early morning late train to Cannes, luckily next train out of
Cannes also late - travelers from Sheffield & cocktail parties with
the Queen - seeing the Alps from Nice - spectacular Monaco - hot
crowded Monaco, desparately seeking toilettes - veggie market -
climbing the hill to observe the changing of the guard & scope a
starting point for the rocket car - more great views & Cousteau - tour
ride - bus to Casino - casino morale - hot crowded confusing Monaco or
you can't get there from here - early train back

R au revoir Cote d'Azur - fast train to Lyon - reading International
Herald Trib: better than our usual news sources - eating usual train
lunch - Leaving Provence, TGV: stucco buildings and terra cotta roofs
climb hills interspersed with olive trees, budding vineyards, marble
mountains, cliffs and wooded crags - we roll north past peaks of the
Massif Central and ruins standing on lonely rocks into rolling
patchwork golden fields of the northern Rhone valley to the Gare Part
Dieu in Lyon, the
greatest crowded chaos we've seen but
invisible chemin de fer choreographers
shuffle crowds into cars. Two high speed trains leave our voie in
thirteen minutes, a fast freight between; people packages dogs and
bikes load fast
& we're off to Tours - rounding northern hills of the Massif, stopping
by small town gardens, cows and sheep - Hills yielding to hedgerowed
fields in the
Valley of the Loire- pausing to view lilacs in Moulins, industrial
dinge Saincaize - getting off at the wrong station in Tours & riding a
smelly connector train to the main station to be hustled by a chateau
tour guide - then salmon mousse & vouvray for supper in the old town
square with hot chocolate coconut crepe dessert - this was a quiet
day; we didn't walk more than 3 or 4 miles
